Space Marine

Post by DeusMechanicus on Tue Oct 06, 2009 8:09 pm

Okay, so it's Ultramarines defending a Forge World from Orks ... Everything I remember having ever read about Forge Worlds is the Mechanicum has their own armies (wether it be Titans or Skitarii), and Imperial agents aren't allowed on them (because the Mechanicum is not part of the Imperium, they're allies. Or more accuractley, the Mechanicum is being contracted by the Imperium.). And in the trailer, I don't see one city-sized factory, hab complex, or volcanic furnace, the trademarks of a Mechanicum Forge World. Anyway, I think this game is supposed to tie into the new movie.

Mmhmm that sounds like they could possibly be delving back into consoles to Promote their new Movie.
I mean they havent done anything on Consoles before or after Firewarrior, atleast for 40K.
I know they did Battle March for 360 which was Warhammer... and it SUCKED ASS... but Firewarrior, I Enjoyed it was nice only I wish you could have played as something other then Tau.
regardless... there was a leaked film from GameWorkshops which had about 10 minutes of game-play from that game, however all websites which got a hold of it were quickly terminated or threatened to be sued.
In my opinion it looks like another Dynasty Warriors Rip Off... or some demented demon baby of Too-Human,
If this really is a forge world. lets remember Planets are big... and Trailers are usually Short Razz

PS: there isn't anything wrong with allies helping one planet in distress I mean if they were near by and the Mechanicum wasn't, wouldn't you go beam down and save it? After all... the Imperium is Huge.

The Mechanicum is protective of their technology. The reason half of it went to Chaos during the Horus Heresy is because the Legions were recovering Forge Worlds and not turning them over to the Mechanicum. Anyway, the Mechanicum doesn't have mobile armies (except the Titan detachements they send out), each Forge World has its own army. And Skitarii would outnumber any SM reinforcements, and while they may not be SM, they are bred, trained, and mechanically augmented to be efficient killing machines. Add to that a titan or two (even a Warhound would wreck some Orks).

EDIT: But, looking back, I guess atleast one Forge World has been overrun by a Waaagh!. Meh. Just seems like an unncessary setting. They atleast better put in some Skitarii or a Titan or something having to do with the Mechanicum. They wouldn't just abandon a Forge World.

And nothing against Relic, but GW should get Bioware to make them a SM RPG. No one can top Bioware in RPGs. Every game that company makes is a hit. From Baldur's Gate to Oblivion. To the new Dragon Age Origins coming out next month (I already preordered it, it's going to be awesome). And SW:TOR coming out next year.

I saw a titan in the preview towards the end when they orbital bomb the place. I'm pretty sure its just that your sent there to help the place out. Cause I saw the orks fighting something else outside of the marines.

I watched the trailer again, and it does look like there's a TItan in the background. But, I noticed something else - Space Marines don't worship the Emperor as a god.

Re: Space Marine

Other than afew rogues, and a traitor Legion or two, the Space Marines have never worshipped the Emperor as a god. They look to him as a father figure, someone to emulate, but not a god. It's the rest of the Imperium who threw away everything the Emperor taught them and started to worship him as soon as he was put on the Golden Throne. And in the trailer they say something about the "God Emperor" and his "Angels of Death" ... and a Space Marine wouldn't say that.

I think I disagree, many a marine has fallen into worship of the emporer, just read any books, i seem to see it alot. Not in any of the Heresy books yes, but get on to newer books, and it appears they do. But, this game looks kinda like crap anywho, and this isn't the place to discuss this.

Meh, it would probably have been better in the other general thread, but this isn't a bad place to discuss it actually.

Well, I'm reading a Black Templar book, and they make many references that they think of the Emperor as a god.

That's because the Black Templars are 100% fanatics... They've been on a never-ending crusade for over 10,000 years.

And it never says definativley if they do believe the Emperor is a god or not. There are opposing factions for and against the belief, within the Black Templars anyway. And they're a unique group in that sense.

Well, then to be fair, you can't really blame Relic for making them worship the 'God Emperor', since it isn't really made clear. I wouldn't take that as a reason the game won't be accurate (And you know, it may be the Black Templars down there?)

The trailer clearly shows Ultramarines, not Black Templars. And the fact the Primarchs and Space Marines were created was to reunite humanity, wipe out religion and enlighten them with Scientific Truth, so to speak, is abundantly clear in GW's books. And they don't suffer from the short life spans of regular humans, and they have a serious tradition of record keeping, so they wouldn't simply "forget" that the Emperor denied being a god... denied there being any gods of any kind, for that matter.

Right. I'm not saying the opposite (Though I didn't know 3/4 of that), but I'm saying you shouldn't assume the game will be bad just because of this. The mistake is understandable, and there's a chance it may be corrected by the time it comes out.

Well, its not just the Templars that do it, Garro in the HH books began to think of the emp as a god, then the Dark Angels began to do it, the Grey Knights do it. But, it might be that only some do it while you may be right, and others only see him as a fatherly figure.

Pretty sure Nathaniel Garro became the first Inquisitor, and yes the Inquisition does believe the Emperor is a god. And I hate the Dark Angels... El'Jonson was a douche, I hope Luther finishes him off. And I don't really consider Grey Knights to be Space Marines anymore (I know they technically are), but they serve the Inquisition.

ya, i like luther over lion too, but i still have a healthy respect for Angels, simply cause you rip away all their secrets, and they are so close to chaos it's not even funny.
