You can abuse any rule you want, but that doesn't mean you won't go unpunished for it ... or atleast your character won't go unpunished. "I cando all this! Ah-hahahahaha!" "Yeah, well ... Only way you can start with corruption is your Divinity roll, and it will never be high enough for a mutation at the beginning of the game. So ... you can do absolutely nothing with that.

Anyway, as for gear, if you can afford it, you can start with it. Guardsmen start with a max 80 Thrones (depending on your roll, 70 + 1d10). Not a lot you can buy with that, but go for it. Unless you want to make him noble, in which case you'll have to come up with a really good back story - and for the love of the Emperor if you were to use "he ran away from home" or "his family was murdered and he was forced to hide his identity" your character would, surely, suffer a slow and excruciating death at the hands of Slaanesh (and it wouldn't be Female-Slaanesh).

I'll let you trade an item in for an item of equal or lesser value. Or multiple items for one expensive item (if the trade-ins total value meets or exceeds the expensive item). If there's an excess (say A is 100 + B is 200 to buy C, and C is 250), you don't get to keep the Thrones (50, in that example). And when we begin playing, prices will be subject to scarcity / inflation. So if you're going to get a big gun, make sure you'll be able to afford the ammo after the game begins, or you'll have a really expensive club. The Inquisition will only requisition so much for lowly Acolytes, and that'll take time. This first mission will be rather pressing, no time to wait.

EDIT: Since the game will start with you already as Acolytes, if any of you would be willing to RP (no dice, just straight text RP) out your individual back stories with me (doesn't have to be in this thread, can do it over AIM or the chatbox or whatever), I might be inclined to award bonus Thrones, Equipment, Traits, and / or Talents. It is completely optional, absolutely no guarantee of rewards. For example, if Gly wanted to do this, it would be his Sanctioning on Holy Terra. But as a side note, it may help you decide how you want to play your character (attitude and such).

I want to trade my Shotgun (60 thrones), Flask of Amasec (50 thrones), and 2 Stimms (40 thrones) for a Combat Shotgun (150 thrones).

And, yes, it would be. It's basically what you'd be doing in the game, but without the chance of horrible, horrible fail dice rolls. Since you all obviously survived your Acolyte initiation there's really no reason to roll on things. I'll give you the setting, and play NPCs, you just have to play your character.
