Ultramarines: The Movie
Ultramarines:The Movie
I'm depressed that its going to be a straight to video movie, but at least we get to see what the 40k universe is like for 70 minutes. Also, codex pictures? the same people who made those bionicle movies? They should have went with someone better in my opinion.

Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
Well, that gave no info whatsoever...
*Sigh* We can only wait and see, but my guess is the reason they went with a shitty producer is because they don't know how it'll turn out, and probably don't want to invest money in it unless they know it'll work (And c'mon, we all know that regardless of producer, 70% of us are still going to buy it.).

Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
im a bit dissapointed its in cgi... but i guess u couldnt really have real actors doing it.. it would look to wierd... and im really hoping they dont do it really cartoony...
Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
I doubt they would. Cartoony wouldn't fit the WH40k universe, but then, there's a Barbie movie coming out, and all my doubts on everything concerning movies are now gone. Nothing will remain undefiled...

Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
Better not be like the new Clone Wars series.. I generally dislike CG (RE:Degeneration was pretty cool though), and I hate the Ultramarines ... but it's 40k ... so I'll probably end up buying it too.

Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
The DoW II intro would be so much better. "Strike from the sky, brothers!"

Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
i meant as an animation style as opposed to... something else i cant think of..
and actually no... the dowI intro was more gritty and realistic, while the DowII intro was more obviously animated

Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
Firstly, I'm so going to buy it as well
Secondly, they're going with ultramarines cause they're saving the best stuff for the movie thats going into the theatres.
Thirdly, they have already defiled the name of motion picture beyond repair(almost every horror movie for the last 30 years), we just have to live with it.
and finally, if they edit this movie to make it appeal to younger audiences, I will bomb codex pictures and murder all the employees who don't get killed in the explosion. Also, I could live with either cgi technique, although, it better be good graphics.

Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
If they going with the guys that made Bionicle, i'm going to be very disappointed. I might buy it, to see if they fuck up our beloved universe. If they do, i'm going to be right next to ghost, triggering the bomb, and then wading through the remains with a machete.

Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
Why use a machete when we have powerfists and dreadnoughts?
And there's a 40k motion picture in the works?!

I was looking on the internet for homemade bombs, but if you got C-4 already, w00t!ChangerOfWays wrote:Should I bring the C-4 or you gonna bring something?
True, I forgot about our friends the space marines. I'd like to see codex pictures after making a Dreadnought angry.Fromundaman wrote:Why use a machete when we have powerfists and dreadnoughts?

Also, yes, a straight to DVD, cgi, 70 minute scifi thriller. I bet its gonna be based on the siege of Macragge by the Tyranids.....except the tyranids are slaughtered.....and no space marines die.....and no blood....

Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
I highly doubt a WH40k movie will ever make it to theatres. If it does, it'll have a mind numbingly dumbed down plot for the idiotic masses known fondly as the American public.

Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
lol yeah thats the problem with making a movie with as small a fanbase as 40k. its either good for the die-hard fans (thus making it unaccessable to most of the public, cause they'll be like wtf) or its good for the public that doesnt know about 40k (thus removing most of the in-depth background that makes it 40k) you'll either end up with a movie that does crap, or another generic space combat movie
Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
Or any country's public really. The public in general has trouble with complex plot, though to be fair, it's possibly because of how rare they are due to this very line of thinking.
However, I honestly think that even if they were completely true to the fluff, it would make a good theatre movie that would appeal to the masses (If done right of course), or at the very least make a profit from W40k lovers. Basically, it wouldn't be a wasted investment, and I truly hope this movie makes enough money to show that to the people in charge.
EDIT: Grass, if they were to start at say, the Horus Heresy, then I think they could fit enough background info in to keep the general public knowing what's going on without dumbing it down much.
Then if that one works, build from there, adding 1 new race per film so that they all have time for proper exposition.

Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
well yeah, we all hope they can strike the balance between boring public/pissing off fans but its gona be very hard to do. and i wish them luck
and u need to think about the *imenseness* of the 40k universe. and try packing that in a ~2 hour movie.
how would you start even? you would need a history on the horus herasy, possibly the old ones/eldar/fall. explanations for everything.
you cant just throw in a piece of something without then explaining what it is.
when i used to play 40k TT, i was reading some forums that had an excellent idea for a movie
the horus heresy story played out over 3 different movies. able to get a real sense of the warfilled gritty universe of 40k, while explaining some founding aspects of the story.

Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
But you'd have to explain the Primarchs in the Horus Heresy, and that would take 3 movies by itself. Can't just have 18 giants walking amongst 7' freaks of nature walking among regular humans and not explain. I'd say just go with a modern (for the game) setting, and not going into the immense backstory (like LotR, there are atleast 4 other books that tie into LotR's history).

Re: Ultramarines: The Movie
i think it was something along the lines of:
mankinds begining - explaining the birth of the space marines and primachs etc (im not fully aware of the begingins of the imperium... but thats this one)
second - the spread of the imperium, and hinting towards the betrayal of horus, ending the movie with horus' betrayal
third - civil war between the loyal and traitor legions
or something other people usually explain things better than i do
