Just a feeling I get.
There seems to be an anti-dota bias running about, and people are basically equating any AoS map to DotA. Maybe that's why popularity has dipped, as they see it as just another copy of dota. In addition, there are so many things that are broken with the map it's not funny, most notably heroes. So I think it's up to us to keep the core idea of the map, but we need to give it a complete facelift.
In other words, we need to prove we're not just another copy of DotA.
Suggestions?

Re: Just a feeling I get.
the problem there is that Dota is just so... bland... that its easily equatable to most aos'
we've already seperated from dota alot... creep count/stats... game mechanics... items... layout... theres a ton of differences.
the problem is that it has a similar playstyle to dota, which is entirely my fault... cause thats about the only Aos that i ever played before starting this map >.>
as to brokeness... yay .46!
are you keeping a list of whats broken?

Re: Just a feeling I get.
<_< You know what similar playstyle dota has? All other aos maps that came before it. It's just the one that became popular for some reason. I played it when it first came out. It was boring as shit.
And all the people equating any aos to dota are idiots that I wouldn't wanna play with anyways, cause they bitch about every little thing anyway.

Re: Just a feeling I get.
LOL! That makes me a little bitch does it? XD Anyone in their right mind would see this is totally different to dota, playwise that is. The biggest part is the outposts idea. This AoS is more challenging and demanding then dota, keeping the noob ragers and undeveloped youngesters away from it.
But I see what you're getting at Gly, but the only thing similar in this map to dota is the RPG, items, creeps, base and lane side of things. That however is the core of any AoS, only a fool would take this as a copy of dota.
Thats just my peice, I could be wrong.

Re: Just a feeling I get.
IMO, the outpost thing is possibly the single best thing I have ever seen in any AoS, and truly, that alone should be enough to make this game popular.
Sadly, it doesn't seem to be that way, since our acronym sadly is not D O T A...

Re: Just a feeling I get.
SMotA has outposts, more notable outposts then w40k. One in the top lane, two in the middle lane and one in the bottom lane, that changes the level of pushing the creeps do alone. Yet with this major change in the way SMotA is played, people still complain about that its a copy of DotA.
Another thing that hard to do is when people ask what an AoS is and you say its like DotA, keyword 'LIKE', they say its another copy and leave, before or after dl. Then when you dont tell them what it is they get all pissy and leave. Its like a double-edge sword, say what it is and they leave, dont tell them anything and they also leave.
Some people are just so far gone into what is DotA, that anything that posses a threat to DotA must be shot down and never played by them. Every AoS has its differences that make them not DotA. So I think we should let them say what they want and just let them do as they please, because we'll still have alot of people to play w40k.

Re: Just a feeling I get.
Actually Grass, I've been meaning to ask, and it kind of ties in, but what will you do when SC2 comes out? Do you plan on moving the map to that if the hero system is similar enough, or keep it on WC3?
The reason I ask is because on SC2, it might be easier to garner popularity, but would probably require recoding everything, which is probably too much work considering your availability.

Re: Just a feeling I get.
Well dota is overrated anyway so dont get narkey over it. Grass, keep your head on please! The adeptus dont get much of a reference to in this map anyway... Say less than 5 heroes with a slight reference to it. Prolly less.
Oh and the map feedback I got from Garena was good, everyone thinks its a great map, but as such nothing large has happened like I wanted. (Like a w40k game room for those who use garena here)
The issue could be adressed, by simply not referring it to dota at all. Call it like aeon of strife, and if they go; 'Wtf is aos?' boot them as its likely they will ruin the game with the nonsense that fills dota games anyway.

Meh, a lot of people who have liked this game haven't really known what AoS means. You could try to compare it to other AoS' instead? I usually name all the ones I can think of when comparing.

i wasnt actually planning on renaming the map >.>
adeptus astartes = space marines btw
also, if the hero systems, models, skill etc are compatable, i plan on moving to sc2. from what i hear, a *ton* of stuff is now customizable right in the object editor without having to use triggers to get the desired effects. this should make the conversion process alot quicker and smoother.
Re: Just a feeling I get.
Awesome, although it means I have to actually buy SC2 now...

Re: Just a feeling I get.
Have you read anything on SC2..? Its editor allows the same hero system as in WC3.

Re: Just a feeling I get.
as well as items and all that fun stuff that makes wc3 so Aos-able
the thing im worried about is compatable models and the custom model possibility.
but i read somewhere that SC2 will use (pretty much) the same model formating as WC3(BL3s instead of BLPs etc), so it shouldnt be that hard for people to come out with custom models, and as sc2 lends itself so much easier to 40k... they should hopefully come quicker, and with less model size.

Re: Just a feeling I get.
Probably be able to use alot more skins rather than completely custom models..
Anywho, downloading the SC2 beta app right now! Whoo!

Re: Just a feeling I get.
I don't want to buy it because well, I don't have all that much money atm, and a lot of other things to spend it on, so I figured I'd, ummm... acquire the single player versions first, then when I can afford it, spring for an actual copy of the game and get a Bnet key.

Re: Just a feeling I get.
Well yes, though the SP is divided into 3 games, so $180 (which I decided long ago I would not pay).
That being said, on my current budget, I can't really spare $60.
