Vassal40k Grouping
Does anyone play vassal40k? I'd like to possibly start a group for it if we could of playing the tabletop game online.
Why in the hell do topic titles need 10 letters? seriously.

It allows you to play the tabletop game of Warhammer 40k online.
And it's completely free, no need to buy models or nothing.

Re: Vassal40k Grouping
You get it, and play online with it.
You still need the books though, the game is very manual oriented rather then automated. So you'll either need to buy or dl the books. So you basically need most of the rules..of course if we group up we can teach each other in general.

Has an advantage over DH - not everyone has to be on at the same time.

Dark templars oped? Please
When you have
Imperial guard: "Unbalanced and undercosted for alot of units, namely the gunship with THREE TWIN LINKED LASCANNONS FOR LESS THEN 130!"
Space wolves: "Psyker abilities out the wazoo, Fucks up entire shit with his abilities, and long fangs are just fucktardedly cheap, and get the cheapest ML of the entire space marines. !"
Blood angels: "Sanguine priests, that is all"

Re: Vassal40k Grouping
Almost any AV can wipe out an IG Vendetta. It's a glass cannon.
Space Wolves ... Yes, they are OP as well. Well known fact.
Sanguinary Priests ... Meh. You can still roll crappy on FNP. And can still be ID'd.
Well played Black Templars can wipe out everything they face in CC. And LRC as ded. transports means their almost always going to make it into CC. Shooting them just pisses them off.

Re: Vassal40k Grouping
I was meaning a good deal of IG's vehicles are a bit undercosted. I just wanted to point out the thing that can fuck up tanks, is a transport, and has a buncha other rules...And it's both cheaper then a Space marine predator with lascannons (165) But it has the same armor as well, and is a skimmer, and fast..And did I mention twin linked?
Black templars have issuesin CC in that they are expensive, the LRC is fucked by anything with melta or lance, not to mention they have CRAPPY shooting, they are Primarily CC, as their shooting has to be at the nearest enemy, so thats even more lackluster. Their morale rules can screw with objective based missions, as you can abuse them in order to run them off objectives.
They also don't have Sargents, so some of their units are stuck at 1 attacks on a basic attack, 2 on a charge. Which isn't so very hot in a CC based army.
They are CC, they aren't anything else that's the problem.

Re: Vassal40k Grouping
The IG need some balance to the fact that the only army worse in CC than them is the Tau.
And they aren't as shooty as the Tau.
Accept Any Challenge is exploitable, but there are ways for the BT player to get around it.
And I've seen some pretty badass BT gunlines.
A really horrible rule is the Necron's Phase Out ... it needs to go away. I don't care if it's fluffy.

Re: Vassal40k Grouping
The IG can pack command squads full of flamers and plasma into chimera's, an undercosted but one of the best dedicated transports ingame, they don't NEED cc, they have enough troops that they can dedicated gunlines just to very large numbers of fuck you lasguns with enough heavy weapons and specialists in order to push back nearly every other faction. It's hard to take this when you say NOT as shooty because they trade main shooty for SERIOUS MASS of shooty. Such serious buisness you don't even knoooow
They can outmech anyone, their tanks are the best, the most varied, and many are undercost for how much punch they can do. Many can screw over many mech factions, many can easily undercut most infantry. Hell, the metagame for pure mech began with them and the 5th edition. They are one of the few that can still easily beat the more major op'ed factions. They have no faction they are generally weak against, and overall they have the best overall lineup in the game. Ranging from good units of psykers, good faction abilities on psykers and commanders, and yeah.
Necrons rule is bad, but then again they used to be better until 5th edition fucked them up the ass, now most of their army is overcosted, weak, and in some cases outright worthless in the face of some new rules.

Re: Vassal40k Grouping
wheeee, i have 1500 points of eldar, and a few other lists kicking around that i could throw up on there.
Other than just talking about having lists and stuff... could we actually get some games going?
do we need to set up our own room? or is that just done by whoever happens to be online at the time?
do we want to set some schedualed meeting times to meet and have games?

Re: Vassal40k Grouping
We can setup rooms when we are online on vassal.
Although for meeting times I'd need to make sure all who's involved. Hell, we could just meet in the channel and then go to vassal if need be.

Re: Vassal40k Grouping
Oh, Cell, there are a few instruction manuals online, and the Vassal40k that I downloaded came with a user manual that explained how to set everything up.
Basically you click + drag the models for your army onto the map, and change weapon options to fit your list, and the module has functions for roling dice, scatter dice, measuring ranges, counters etc for playing real games.
you can even make a log to copy your entire army at once...
->place all the models your using for your army with appropriate upgrades/weapons/bases etc.
->in the 40k module, click the "start log" or something button (its in the 'file' dropdown menu)
->select your entire army and copy it
->click "end log" or whatever its called, and save it somewhere
->when starting a new game, click "continue from file" or something similar (again, in the 'file' drop down menu)
->then click the 'forward' button (next to the undo button) and all your models are placed on the board
